PHNOM PENH: Over two tons of confiscated drugs were incinerated by the authorities of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot and Kampong Speu provinces on Friday, July 7.

Around 2,153 kilos of drugs were burned, most of which came from port-city Sihanoukville, whose authorities contributed over 2,000 kilos to the pile. Kampong Speu province provided nearly 100 kilos while Kampot authorities had only brought about one kilos of drugs to be incinerated. Those found with the drugs had all been processed through the court system.

The incineration took place in the presence of the Secretary of State for the Ministry of Justice, Keng Somarith, Secretary-General of the National Authority for Combating Drugs (NACD), Meas Virith, Preah Sihanouk Governor Kouch Chamroeun, and NACD authorities from all three provinces.

The incineration was held to celebrate the International Day Against Drug Abuse on June 26.
